Devlog apr 11 - Exploration 101
Welcome to the first April devlog!
This is our first period working on the exploration framework. The idea for this framework is to allow the player to explore areas, speak with people, get and complete quests, and collect loot. Eventually, our system must be able to handle all these features.
First things first: We've created a small farm environment for the player to explore.
Such a nice farm! This took a long time to draw
We have created a system that allows the player to move around and also created a simple walking animation
Note how the camera follows the player character around. This is different from combat mode, where the camera is movable independently of the player (so the player can pan over and see enemies that might be important to the tactical decisions they make)
Finally, we want the map to be able to change depending on player actions. This could be opening or closing doors, adding or removing characters, or even big changes like all the plants wilting or similar. For this example, we have chosen a simple change: If the player interacts with the well in the middle of the courtyard, a chest will appear.
Yay! Loot! ... how do we pick it up?
It is sadly not yet possible to pick up any items from the chest - That will come in the next update! We'll also create a menu allowing the player to view and equip their items.
The second April devlog will be on april 25th. Talk to you then!
nice work :D
ReplyDeleteMy immediate hope to what would follow the sentence of not being able to pick up the loot was to to then be able to pick up the chest itself instead 😛
ReplyDeleteThis is a really tough place to halt development! Introducing a chest with loot but NOT being able to pick up the loot 😱haha!
But all in all great additions, I love it! The walk animation gives of some really nostalgic feelings for me - it's great! 💖
I love the walking animation too. It has some good energy.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see more video from the game :D
